How many days before vessel arrival should documents be in place/at Beira Port agent to enable pre-clearance?
To avoid delays and unnecessary extra cost on port storage led by failure to pre-clear the shipment the following documents should be couriered to the Port agent 14days before vessel arrival:-
  1. Bill of Lading
  2. Certificate of Origin
  3. Commercial Invoice
  4. Packing List
  5. Hazchem certificates (MSDS) and any other supporting documents.
How many free days is cargo allowed to stay at Beira port after being discharged (port free days)?
They are no free days for Hazchem cargo at Beira port. The following charges are levied from the moment the container is discharged from vessel until it is loaded onto truck per day per container USD50.00 per 20’ per day and USD100.00 per 40’ container.
For normal cargo in containers how many free days at Beira port - 10 free days is allowed at Beira port thereafter USD40.00 per 20’ per day and USD75.00 per 40’ per day
What are the type of trucks recommended to carry Hazchem cargo from Beira and tonnage allowed on each truck?
Hazchem certified trucks and drivers are allowed to carry Hazchem cargo and failure to do so will result in cargo being confiscated and huge fines levied. Maximum tonnage allowed for a Triaxle truck is 28tons and for a Superlink truck is 34tons.
Are there any Hazchem warehouses in Beira that can handle Hazchem cargo in case it comes as bulk shipment and needs to be transported to a warehouse for re-packing and transportation to Zimbabwe?
Yes warehouses are there in Beira and charges WE- Entry and Ex-Entry fees, re-packing fees etc.
How many free days do shipping lines in Beira give before charging shipping line detention fees?
It is 21 days thereafter there are charges per day per container.
What are the most preferred shipping lines to seafreight Hazchem cargo from Point of Origin to Point of Destination?
It is Maersk, MSC and CMA CGM.
Is Empty Container turn in allowed in Zimbabwe?
This all depends/varies with the shipping line used some accept empty container turn in at Harare Depots at a fee depending if they require those empty containers in Zimbabwe or not and some would require the empty containers to be dropped off back at Beira Port at a fee as well.
What type of packaging would you recommend the Shipper to stuff the cargo in at Point of origin?
We would recommend stuffing the Hazchem cargo in containers for easier handling and avoiding double handling that comes with de-stuffing and re-packing of shipments that come in bulk.

Is there a container deposit to be paid for transiting containers?
Container Deposit for containers from Mozambique – Zimbabwe that acts as a Guarantee that the empty container will be returned to Mozambique is required and the fees are as follows: - 20’ container is USD1500.00 and 40’ container is USD3000.00 per container. A waiver can be negotiated with the shipping lines.

Can a Container Deposit Waiver be negotiated with the various Shipping Lines?
The negotiation for Container Deposit Waiver is normally done from Port of Loading and should this fail or not done in time, the Mozambique agent can also assist at Beira Port 14days before vessel arrival if the following shipping lines are used – Maersk, MSC and CMA CGM.
